A man was given two life sentences and an additional 10 years for murder, rape and housebreaking with the intent to commit a crime.
Solomon Moumakwe Motseki received the stiff sentence from the North West High Court sitting in Ga- Rankuwa. Motseki was convicted of the kidnapping, rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in 2014.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson, Frank Lesenyego said : “On the night of December 22, 2014, the deceased was asleep in her home when the accused broke in and kidnapped her. “He took her to a nearby plot where he raped and assaulted her. ”
A post-mortem report showed that the girl’s death was due to consistent external pressure on her neck.
Judge Annah Kgoele said the accused failed to show remorse for the crimes he committed. The court expressed concern at the brutality meted out to the minor, who could not have posed any threat to the perpetrator.
“You have dehumanised and degraded the child and you have no place in our society,” Kgoele said.
