A new study has found that it is not always love at first site when mothers see their newborn babies for the first time.
According to a new survey 18 per cent of new mothers and fathers admitted to being privately disappointed with the looks of their new arrivals, the dailymail.co.uk reports.
However 82 percent of parents proudly described their little bundle of joy as the most beautiful thing they had ever seen.
Of the 18 percent who were not impressed with their baby’s looks, more than half said they had discussed their feelings with their partners while eight percent had chosen to keep it to themselves.
'There is a lot of pressure on new parents in all kinds of ways and this is something that remains taboo and just isn't talked about,’ one father was quoted saying.
'Everyone seems to think they have the most beautiful baby on earth and as a new parent you feel you have to say the same even if you privately believe your baby is ugly.’
The survey was conducted by PromotionalCodes.org.uk with about 1 000 parents taking part.
The parents were asked to share the feelings and reactions they experienced when they first set eyes on their babies.
'Interestingly loving your baby doesn't have to mean that you think it is beautiful. It seems that every parent feels a pressure to say their new baby is beautiful but only four out of five actually believe it,’ a spokesman for PromotionalCodes.org.uk was quoted saying.
