A thunderstorm that left large parts of the City of Tshwane’s newest addition, Bronkhorstspruit, in the dark and dry is stretching municipal resources to the limit.

on Tuesday saw municipal workers moved a complete transformer from Centurion to the Cathie Street sub-station in Bronkhorstspruit. The unit will replace one damaged by lightning.

“Technical teams have been beefed up and are working non-stop,” said City of Tshwane spokesperson Dikeledi Phiri.

Power will be restored systematically as soon as possible.

The loss of power, caused by a massive thunderstorm on Sunday, has also affected the water supply in the area. This has seen a number of tankers deployed to ensure residents have access to the life-giving and sustaining resource until normal service is resumed.

Expectations are power will be back later today with the water supply back to normal in terms of water pressure soon afterwards. – 701176
