HE VISUALISED: James Bhemgee has released his new CD – My Victory.
From wearing overalls and sweeping the streets of affluent Cape Town suburbs to being a famous opera singer – this is the story of Cape Flats tenor, James Bhemgee.
He shot into prominence after winning local reality show, SA’s Got Talent and then later to headlining a few shows and also performing with popular singers like Andre Rieu and Katherine Jenkins. His life has a taken a turn for the best.
He recently launched his 10-track album, Vincero – My Victory and he said he aims to touch a lot of people with his music and hopes people will like it.
He told The New Age that he used to sing every morning hoping that “a rich white person would discover my talent and help me realise my dreams” and one day all that came true.
Bhemgee said: “I would always dream but know that someday it will happen for me – it has never been an impossible or unattainable dream.
“I’ve always wanted to sing and after I was afforded the opportunity, I saw myself going to voice lessons every day and that’s when I started realising that all I’ve ever wanted was slowly coming to fruition.
“After winning SA’s Got Talent I’ve been so busy to a point where I’ve decided that I am going to solely focus on building my career and the brand.”
In the year since walking off with the title, he has not been idle as he has been in constant demand for corporate and charity events, as well as dazzling performances during concerts such as the Huisgenoot Skouspel, the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival and Last Night of the Proms.
The 10-track album features a selection of beloved arias and songbook standards, including “Nessun Dorma”, “O Sole Mio”, two versions of “Ave Maria” (Schubert and Bach), “Nella Fantasia”, “Gira Con Me” (the song he sang during the SA’s Got Talent final) and “Grenada”. Also included are the numbers “Some Enchanted Evening”, “Impossible Dream” and, in a dream duet with SA’s Got Talent judge and performer extraordinaire Ian von Memerty, a stirring rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
Bhemgee’s hotly anticipated debut album will be available in early April at all leading retail music stores from R100 or through his website www.jamesbhemgee.co.za
