Heavy rains on Sir Lowry’s Pass has led to rock falls, leaving 12 people injured.
Jacques Mostert from the provincial traffic department said yesterday two lanes had been closed.
“The other two lanes in the directions of Somerset West and Grabouw were reopened. The heavy rains at the weekend caused the rockfalls. It is still misty and raining there,” he said.
The rockfalls led to many people having to make use of alternative routes as they returned home on Sunday evening.
The N2 at Botrivier was also closed. Motorists using the roads on Sir Lowry’s Pass were asked to exercise extreme caution.
Twelve people were lucky to escape a rock fall on the N2 at Sir Lowry’s Pass late on Sunday evening. Paramedics and rescue services were called to the scene after the rocks fell on two cars travelling on the N2. Six children and six adults had only minor injuries.
