A 42-year-old man was arrested for the alleged possession of stolen copper cable worth R80000 and will appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court today.
The man was arrested on Saturday by the Zamdela Crime Prevention Unit who came across a Nissan 1400 bakkie near a graveyard.
According to police spokesperson Const Peter Kareli, the police saw a suspicious-looking vehicle and tried to stop it but the driver sped away.
“A chase ensued. The suspect switched off his car lights to distract the police but they stayed on his trail,” said Kareli.
The police cornered him near Chris Hani township and the suspect tried to run away.
“It was discovered there was a load of stolen copper cable in the bakkie worth about R80000. The driver was asked where he got the cable but refused to tell the police,” said Kareli.
