A total of 2076 suspects were arrested in the Western Cape at the weekend.
This came after Western Cape police conducted several operations aimed at serious and violent crimes.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Andrè Traut said: “These initiatives delivered the desired results when a total of 2076 suspects were arrested for various serious crimes throughout the province between Friday morning at 6am and Sunday evening at 6pm.”
With drugs still a major concern in the Western Cape, a total of 611 suspects were arrested for drug possession, 15 for murder, three for attempted, 22 for assault, seven for rape, four for robbery, 11 for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and 34 were arrested for burglary.
“We are rather pleased with the outcome of our intervention to create a safer environment for the people of this province and we regard ourselves operationally ready for the festive season.”
“Our warning to criminals is simple, we will not allow you to get away with crime in the Western Cape.”
