Main Reef Road in Roodepoort was closed off to traffic on Thursday morning due to a protest in the area on Wednesday night, metro police said.

The road was closed off between Wilgespruit Street and Corlett Avenue because of rocks and tyres placed on the road by protesters, said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

"Therefore the road is not safe for motorists this morning. Motorists can use Ontdekkers Road as an alternative route this morning [Thursday] while clean up operations are being done." - Sapa
