Provincial police boss Lt-Gen Thulani Ntobela has threatened to take action against police officials who were allegedly found asleep while on duty at Ermelo police station recently.

Ntobela said on Friday that his office had heard about the claims and that he would get a report from the station’s management before visiting Ermelo to interact with residents about their interaction with the police.

Ntobela said he was concerned about the complaint and promised to carry out an investigation into the claims.

“Sleeping on duty is uncalled for and it is regarded as a serious matter,” said Ntobela.

“There is no room for excuses in respect of non-attendance of telephone calls, not responding to complaints, sleeping on duty and indications of unavailability of cars in life threatening situations because stations, including Ermelo, had been provided with vehicles,” said Ntobela.
