Nonhlanhla Mroza Buthelezi’s weekday drive show on Ukhozi FM is sheer theatre of the mind.
So playwright hubby – his fourth – Mbongeni Ngema fits right in.
Last week Buthelezi plugged the country’s Heritage Month celebrations by bringing two German youths into the studio. “Did you taste the Durban bunny show?” she asked to which a guest enthusiastically said: “Yes, of course”.
“I also enjoyed papen,” said the other youth in reference to pap, a township staple.
Both said they enjoyed the beachfront tremendously, it was “warmer” compared to their waters. “We have the Indian ocean while you have the Pacific therefore your ocean is colder,” said Buthelezi.
The boys said though they had rivers and lakes and no beach access where they lived. They also said they loved local music as “it had more drumming”.
In Germany the youth loved American hip hop, though the number-one selling rock artist is Xavier Naidoo whose dad was an apartheid exilee. – MR Newswire
