Pop star Rihanna is getting into the TV business.
The 24-year-old singer will executive produce and star in the new series, "Styled to Rock," for the Style network. Style Media made the announcement on Wednesday.
The 10-episode series, to air next year, will give 12 aspiring designers, chosen by Rihanna, an opportunity to style A-list stars. The weekly celeb guest will decide which designer did the best job.
“Fashion has always played an integral part in my life and career,” Rihanna said in a statement quoted by NY Daily Mail.
“I am so excited to partner with Style Network and share my creative insight with these 12 designers and give them this opportunity to showcase their work,” the singer said.
One contestant will be sent home, and those remaining will advance to the next week's challenge. At the end, one aspiring designer will be named the winner. Prizes are still being determined.
A casting search is under way on Style's website.
“Rihanna is a trailblazer, a trendsetter and the epitome of style. She has a powerful and unique point-of-view that transcends every aspect of pop culture, including fashion, and is a leading creative force,” Salaam Coleman Smith, president of the network was quoted as saying.
The Barbadian singer is reportedly working on her own clothing and lingerie limited edition line, teaming up with Italian luxury label Armani.
The high street fashion line is set to make its debut in Spring 2013.
