Belgium grabbed the last remaining ticket for the 35th edition of the Hockey Champions Trophy to be held in India in 2014.
On Saturday, Belgium defeated Germany 5-4 in extra-time in the 5th-place play-off match. New Zealand finished seventh after winning 3-2 in extra time against England.
Goals from Tom Boon, John-John Dohmen and Sebastien Dockier gave Belgium a convincing 3-0 lead. However, goals from Patrick Schmidt, Benedikt Fuerk, Mats Grambusch and Moritz Polk put Germany ahead 4-3.
When Germany, the Olympic champions, were short-handed by two players, Alexandre de Saedeleer converted a penalty stroke to equalise at 4-4.
In extra-time Dockier scored the winner for Belgium. "It was our goal to finish fifth" de Saedeleer said.
Nicholas Wilson and Stephen Jenness scored for New Zealand with Darren Cheesman and Barry Middleton putting their names on the score sheet for England.
In extra-time Wilson scored the golden goal to secure the first win for the "Black Sticks" in this competition.
Wilson said: "We had a tough time in this tournament as we did not play as well as we should have. It is good to finish with a win."
