Whitney Houston's brother Michael Houston has confessed to getting the late singer hooked on drugs.

Though over the years many have blamed Whitney Houston's ex-husband Bobby Brown for her drug addiction, her younger brother told Oprah Winfrey he is to blame, according to reports.

“Once I was into that, then she followed suit," Houston said.

"We were always, you know, being together most of the time, and her following behind me -- I taught her to drive. We played together -- everything that you do together as you're growing up -- and then when you get into drugs, you do that together too, and it just got out of hand," Houston said.

According to her brother, Whitney was in her 20's and at the height of her music career when they started doing drugs.

"You gotta understand, at the time, the '80s, it was acceptable.... In the entertainment industry it was just like, available. It wasn't like a bad word like it is now. You know what I'm saying? We didn't know. We just didn't know."

Whitney Houston was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel bathtub in February 2012. A coroner’s report said drugs were found in her system.

Despite Michael Houston's confession, Whitney's mother says she blames Bobby Brown for her daughter’s drug addiction spiralling out of control.

"I do believe her life would have turned out differently," Cissy Houston told Oprah Winfrey during the interview for the Next Chapter.

"It would have been easier for her to get sober and stay sober. Instead she was with someone who, like her, wanted to party. To me, he never seemed to be a help to her in the way she needed," Cissy Houston said.
