Commercial director Michael Gracey will direct Sir Elton John's musical biopic, according to reports.
According to Contact Music, Elton John made an unusual choice of hiring a commercials director to helm his long-awaited movie dubbed “Rocketman”.
The website reported that Elton John joined forces with his film producer partner David Furnish and playwright and screenwriter Lee Hall to work on the movie which will tell the story of his life and career through his music.
“Everyone knows and loves Elton John’s music, but the true story of his life is so incredible that it can only be described as a fantasy. His journey from impossible dreamer to stardom and uncontrollable excess is something only a musical film can capture, and I’m so excited to be the one to tell his story,” Michael Gracey was quoted by Contact Music as saying.
However, collider.com has reported that there's no word on who will play Elton John himself but there's a search currently underway to cast the child version of the singer.
Elton John has recently received a recent Golden Globe nomination for his song “Hello, Hello” from the animated film Gnomeo and Juliet.
On the other hand, Gracey is also attached to direct a couple of other feature films including The Greatest Showman on Earth and the Jim Henson biopic The Muppet Man.
