The African National Congress on Monday congratulated Uhuru Kenyatta on his election as president of Kenya.
On Saturday Kenya's Supreme Court confirmed Kenyatta as president following his election victory on March 4.
His opponent, Prime Minister Raila Odinga, challenged his victory, but accepted the court's ruling, ANC spokesman Jackson Mthembu said in a statement.
"[This] will assist in stabilising Kenya and restoring calm. The African National Congress wishes the new president well... We congratulate the people of Kenya for their restraint and relatively peaceful elections."
Official results from the election showed Kenyatta won 50.07 percent of the vote, just passing the 50 percent threshold to avoid a second-round ballot by around 8000 votes.
Kenyatta, the son of the country's founding president Jomo Kenyatta, was declared the winner on March 9.
He would be sworn in on April 9, becoming the country's fourth president. - Sapa
