Thick manliner, dark lipstick and shiny leather jackets – bringing the grunge back into fashion, Marilyn Manson has been chosen as the new face of French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent’s new spring campaign.
According to Billboard.com Manson, real name Brian Warner, will be starring in an ad for the fashion label’s new menswear campaign.
Manson was especially handpicked by the Saint Laurent’s Creative Director, Hedi Slimane, for his dark, grunge edginess which epitomises the 1990’s music era, something the fashion house is bringing back into fashion after it showed-cased a collection that was very punkie a few months ago, reported Glamour.com.
E!online.com has reported that Manson is not the first musician to be cast in Saint Laurent’s ads, following in the footsteps of rock-musicians such as Beck Hansen and Sky Ferreira.
An image from the label’s latest ad campaign was leaked by fashion expert Nicola Formichetti and SCENE magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Peter Davis’s social network accounts, according to Billboard.com.
Formichetti commented on a photo from the campaign on his Instagram account “AMAZING”, while, Davis used his Facebook account and wrote: "Marilyn Manson in the new Saint Laurent ads. Thoughts?"
Although it’s pretty surprising that Manson is cast as a model for a plush fashion line such as Saint Laurent, the rocker fits perfectly with the new ‘goth-grunge’ look the label is aiming for, reports Billboard.com.
We’ll still have to see how the public and the fashion world respond to this very unusual, but appealing, collaboration, where grunge meets couture.
