Gabisile Ndebele

Here she is, South Africa’s latest Playboy playmate who will appear in the new publication launching on Thursday night.

Keeping to the style and format of founder Hugh Hefner the publication has chosen to have a playmate of the month and will choose a girl-next-door for the inside pages, with a local celebrity on the cover.

Amy Bridger, 23, is the first to be chosen and The New Age spoke to her about the experience.

Who is Amy?

I am a girl from Welkom, in the Free State, and I started modelling in Grade 7. I have done some photographic modelling in the past – I was lucky enough to be in the FHM Home Grown Hunnies top 100 and I have also walked the ramps at fashion shows. I work as a skin therapist at a salon called Skin Anatomy in Fourways and have been there for four years.

How did you get to be chosen as a Playmate?

I found out about the playmate auditions through a friend of mine who knew I wanted to get back into modelling. She suggested I try out to be the first playmate. I thought, why not? I am single and I wanted to get back into modelling, so I auditioned. After a few weeks they called me to tell me I had made it and I was just shocked.

What was it like posing for the pictures?

The nice thing about this whole experience is that the team that I was working with was totally professional. They were selling class and not porn.

There were about five to seven people in the team.

The photographer, his assistant, wardrobe stylist, hair and make-up stylist who were all very professional and knew what they were doing. I was not nervous about this because I had done a nude shoot before – I had my hands over my boobs.

The lingerie and shoes that I wore were also classy and beautiful so that made the job even easier.

What were the challenges on the shoot?

The high-heel shoes were so high but I managed to get the job done.

What did your family, friends and colleagues think when you told them you were going to appear in Playboy?

Amazing. My family, friends and my boss are all in favour of me doing this. I think my boss is more excited for me that I am for myself.

What reaction do you expect from this?

I hope people see this as a tasteful shoot of a beautiful woman and not porn. I am not going to be flashing my boobs at everyone, they will be in the magazine for them to see.

Would you do this again if offered a chance?

Yes, I just wouldn’t do a completely naked shoot ever again.
