64 year-old author and journalist, Heidi Holland was found dead in her home on Saturday.
According to police, Holland found by her gardener this morning at her home in Melville after an apparent suicide.
The writer’s death has been met with shock and sadness from former colleagues and fans alike.
The DA’s Federal Chairperson, Dr Wilmot James expressed sadness at her passing, saying the country had lost a ‘serious democratic voice’.
“A great host to all at her Mellville B&B and a person of considerable insight into the persona of Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe, Ms. Holland, author of Dinner with Mugabe, was one of the serious democratic voices of our time”, he said in a press statement.
Holland who was best known as the author of ‘Dinner with Mugabe’ an account of her meetings with Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe spent her career as a journalist and columnist and had worked for publications such as The Sunday Times, The Telegraph, International Herald Tribune, The New York Times and The Guardian.
Her other books include ‘The Colour of Murder’, a South African–based book on the Van Schoor family and the murder trials its members faced and a book based on the history of the ruling-party ‘The Struggle: A History of the African National Congress’.
