The ANC in Bokone Bophirima has distanced itself from gun carrying delegates who were found with illegal firearms at the ANC’s National Conference.

“The ANC provincial leadership in disturbed by the news and would like to indicate that Jafta Masilo who is a branch chairperson, Patrick Mathe and Solomon Rasello were branch delegates but became non-voting delegates after the court decision on the Bojanala matter.”

This comes after reports that some delegates from the North West Province attending the conference were arrested at the weekend for possession of a stolen firearm.

ANC in Bokone Bophirima says that the information that they have is that the delegates were allegedly set up by a Gauteng friend of one of the comrades who is the owner of the firearm.

The person allegedly joined them on their way to Nasrec from the conference registration point in Soweto.

“We distance the movement from the debacle as it does not affect the participation of the province in the ANC national conference,” the party said in a statement.

The three delegates appeared in court on Monday and they were released without any charges.

The ANC in the province says that it will make sure that its image and participation in the conference is not dented by the incident.

It further calls on the police to investigate the matter.
