Chippa United have moved up to the second spot in the Absa Premiership table following their 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The Chilli Boys got off to a perfect start looking for an early goal before their opponents found their rhythm. The home side broke the deadlock through Abel Mabaso after he received a good cross from Mark Mayambela.

Chiefs looked to get an early equaliser and started to enjoy ball possession but could not penetrate Chippa’s defence. Chippa came close to securing a second goal in the 25th minute when Moeketsi Sekola’s header was superbly saved by Itumeleng Khune.

Chiefs spent most of the time in control of the game in the second half but their dominance couldn’t bring the much needed equaliser. In the 86th minute Chiefs were unlucky not to get a goal when Paez’s header from a close range was superbly turned away by Daniel Akpeyi.

Chippa defended their 1-0 lead to register their 4th league win which sees them shoot up to 2nd place. Chippa will face Ajax Cape Town in their next league match on Saturday while Chiefs will travel to North West Province to face Platinum Stars.
