The city of Cape Town has released a statement saying dam levels have declined to 26.2%, 1% down from a week ago.
The city said the last 10% of a dam’s water is mostly unusable, which effectively leaves dam levels at 16.2%.
Looking at the consumption level in the city, there is approximately 100 days of usable water left.
The city’s current consumption is reportedly over and above the collective usage target of 700 million litres per day.
Due to this, water pressure has been reduced in parts of the city.
Mayoral committee member Xanthae Limberg said the city is monitoring the situation and may have to implement stricter water restrictions if the situation does not improve.
