Five people have died and six others sustained injuries after a taxi rolled on the R23 Heidelberg Road in Brakpan on Friday.
The taxi was found lying upright on the side of the road. Some passengers were found lying around the taxi after they were ejected when it rolled.
Paramedics also discovered the lifeless bodies of four men and one woman lying not far from the taxi.
ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said: “Unfortunately, these five patients had already succumbed to their multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for them and they were declared dead on the scene.”
Six other people were found on the scene and paramedics found that their injuries ranged from minor to critical.
All patients were immediately treated and later transported to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.
The cause of the accident is still unknown.
