A 19-year-old Mozambican footballer was grabbed and killed by a crocodile during his training session near the Zambezi River in the western province of Tete.
Estevao Albert Gino was playing for the second division side, Atletico Miniero de Tete in Mozambique.
The incident took place last Thursday at night.
“On that night he (Gino) was training and after jogging he stretched his hands into the water and that was when the crocodile caught him,” Gino’s coach said in a statement.
Two neighbours who saw the attack could not do anything to save the player because they estimated the crocodile to have been five-metres long.
Officials confirmed that his body hasn’t been found.
Crocodile attacks not unusual in the Zambezi.
