The Joburg Property Company (JPC) scooped an award for Best International Public Services Development at the International Property Awards (IPA) on Monday.
The JPC, which was nominated from Africa in the Public Services Development category, was honoured in the United Kingdom.
The IPA celebrates the highest levels of achievement by companies operating in all sectors of the property and real estate industry.
The speaker of council in the City of Johannesburg, councilor Vasco da Gama, welcomed the latest award.
“This is certainly another feather in the cap for our beloved chamber and thank you to everyone who has played a part in the construction and maintenance of this awesome chamber. Your hard work is bearing fruit,” da Gama said.
Last year, the Johannesburg Council Chamber was awarded the 5-Star Green Award, which recognises excellence in South Africa for environmental leadership.
The Council Chamber is a state of the art architectural innovation, which was designed in such a way that it provides seating capacity for 363 councilors and 172 seats in the gallery for the public and media, 80 seats more than is currently required, in order to cater for future expansion.
The chamber also boasts 134 heritage totem poles, which reflect the stories of the residents of the city, from its San heritage to the scramble for gold.
