SOUTH African-born comedian Trevor Noah is in line to win his first Prime time Emmy Award after his first nomination for the world’s biggest television awards.
The Daily Show host is considered to be one of the surprise inclusions in the awards known as the television version of the Oscar Awards. Noah is up for outstanding form variety series, for The Daily Show’s YouTube programme Between the Scenes.
He shares the nod with such shows as Behind the Voice, Epic Rap Battles Of History, Honest Trailers and The Star Wars. However, the star comedian and his team at The Daily Show did not make the coveted, outstanding variety series which pits some of his biggest peers and rivals in the late night fake news shows format.
This list is made up of names such as, Jimmy Kimmel, John Oliver, James Corden, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon. Since taking over the show in 2015, Noah has struggled to impress critics who see him as nothing but an outsider, but this year, there has been a change of fortune for the star comedian, with most of his critics slowly warming up to his outsider take on American politics.
The 69th edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards will be at Microsoft Theatre, Los Angeles on September 17, with fellow nominee Stephen Colbert as host. Colbert is yet to make history as the first performer in the Emmy history to win multiple awards while also hosting.
He’s up for six Emmys, including variety talk series for The Late Show.
