South African boxer Zolani Tete has made history by recording the fastest knockout win in the world in a championship fight against fellow countryman Siboniso Gonya at the SSE Arena in Belfast, London.
The fight lasted less than 11 seconds and had Gonya unconscious, he earned himself a new world record which previously stood at 17 seconds.
Speaking on his arrival back to the country, Tete said he went into the match planning to take out Gonya out in the fourth round.
“The plan was to give him a few rounds, but before I got inside the ring I told myself you know what let me test first and see if he can take a punch before I go three rounds with him. Fortunately, I caught him off guard.
“He was not expecting all that because he was hoping that we would go on as I had said I would give him three rounds and knock him out in the fourth round.”
Tete added that he played mind games with Gonya and took him out while he least expect him to.
“I am happy that Gonya has recovered from the knockout and “he is going to continue with his boxing career.”
