Gay and Lesbians pride march in Limpopo
Limpopo Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transsexual and Intersexual Proudly Out movement (LGBTI) will stage an awareness march in Polokwane Saturday.
The movement’s treasurer Nkele Aphane said on Friday over 500 people are expected to attend the event that will start at 10 am.
“People from as far as Gauteng, Mpumalanga and North-West have shown interest in the event. The pride march aims at creating awareness and public visibility.
“Everyone, irrespective of sexual orientation, is welcome to join the pride march as long as they come to support the LGBTI cause.
“The march will go through Hans van Rensburg Street to the Polokwane Cricket Club for a party,” said Aphane.
The gay and lesbian march came after weeks of finger pointing between the Polokwane municipality and the LGBTI over the route for the march.
Initially the organisers did not want to use Hans van Rensburg street claiming it is less populated and has no shops.
“But now we have no choice, we will just use it,” said Aphane.
Municipal spokesperson Matshediso Mothapo said: “There is no discrimination against the organisers as the route approved is a protocol route that is used.”
