Queen of Katwe Premiers in Joburg
The who’s who of entertainment attended the Johannesburg premier of Disney’s “Queen of Katwe” last night in Fourways.
Queen of Katwe will play in South African cinemas on October 14.
Queen of Katwe is about the constant struggle of 10-year-old Phiona (Madina Nalwanga) and her family. Her world changes one day when she meets Robert Katende (David Oyelowo), a missionary who teaches children how to play chess
Ocsar award winner Lupita Nyong’o plays mother of 10-year old Phiona. The movie was directed by Mira Nair and is based on the true story of a young girl from Kampala, Uganda, whose life is rapidly changed by chess.
Maps Maponyane, Nomzamo Mbatha, Toya Delazy and Lira are some of the South African celebrities that attended the premier.
Actor/director Akin Omotoso, actress Rori Motuba (who made her international red carpet debut last night), Maggie Benedict and Carina Nel are among some of the African actors that you will get to see feature in the film.
